AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

Air traffic control is all about keeping aircraft safely separated to avoid collision. Air Traffic Controllers do this by allocating different heights to aircraft or by arranging minimum horizontal distances between them.

UK airspace is split into two types

‘Lower airspace’, up to 25,000 feet and ‘Upper airspace’, above 25,000 feet. The airspace is then further divided into a number of geographical areas known as ‘sectors’, each of these are allocated to dedicated controllers
